Assigned with folding a metal sheet as the material and manufacturing requirement, the design explores ways to manipulate a flat sheet into a three-dimensional form. The final chopstick rest design visualizes form through the shadows created by the metal folds.
Inspired by the simplicity and continuous stroke of Chinese characters, the design consists of nine chopstick rests representing the numbers 1-9. The strokes in each character were translated into a laser-cut pattern, then folded, and plated into its final form.
